Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Powell of Guyton announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Kathryn, to 1st Lt. Benjamin Murray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Murray of Thomasville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Capt. and Mrs. Curtis Knight (Retired) of Savannah and Maj. and Mrs. Lester Powell (retired) of Jacksonville, Fla. Miss Powell is a 2003 honor graduate of South Effingham High School and a 2007 Cum Laude honor graduate of Brenau University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Pedagogy.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Caroline Sipp and the late Mr. Paul Sipp of Rome and the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul F. Murray of Port Chester, N.Y. First Lt. Murray is a 2004 graduate of Thomasville High School and a 2008 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. First Lt. Murray is currently serving as the Executive Officer of the 29th Engineer Company, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.

A Feb. 5, 2011, wedding is planned at the First Presbyterian Church in Savannah.
