Rachel Laverenz of Effingham County and Seth Maxie of Hattiesburg, Miss., were named the 2011 Blinn College homecoming queen and king during halftime of the Buccaneers’ game against Trinity Valley Community College on Saturday.
Laverenz, a freshman animal science major, and Maxie, a sophomore animal science major, both represented the Blinn Agriculture Club.
They were chosen from more than 20 queen and king candidates. Criteria for judging included popular votes, performance in the homecoming pageant and each potential royal’s fundraising totals at the Texas school.
The nominees raised $1,689 for the Bastrop Christian Ministerial Alliance, which will use the funds to help support fire victims from Bastrop and surrounding counties.
Organized by the Student Government Association and the Department of Student Leadership and Activities, the College hosted more than 300 students each evening for events such as casino night, movie night, the homecoming dance and a pep rally/block party.
In addition to the events on the Brenham campus, Shelby Garcia of Lufkin and Thomas Atchley of Rosenberg were crowned the 2011 Mr. and Ms. Blinn, Brazos Valley Campuses during halftime of the Oct. 8 game vs. Tyler Junior College at Bryan High’s Merrill Green Stadium.
Garcia, a sophomore physical therapy major, and Atchley, a sophomore business/marketing major, both represented the Blinn Sociology Club.
