A lot to agree on for hopefuls
Commission candidates back better and more roads and lower impact fees

The three Effingham County commission candidates at Thursday night’s forum were vocal in their support of more and better roads and lesser
impact fees.

District 3 candidate Steve Mason and District 5 candidates Phil Kieffer and Delmons White also addressed the topic of the chairman at-large position. District 3 candidate Lillie Smart Brown could not attend because of an illness.

“My thought on it was that was the mayor of the county,” Mason said. “He was going to have to dedicate most of his time to do ceremonial things and represent the county as though he was the mayor of a city. I don’t think the chairman should vote. That causes problems and has caused problems.”

Said Kieffer: “The chairman at large position should not be a voting position. With five district seats and a chairman, every vote can be a tie.
That’s not fair to the citizens.”
