Two local men were honored with the Life Saving Award at Rincon’s city council meeting on Monday night for their actions during a house fire.

Rincon Police Officer Jack Beaty and U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Andre Arguello entered a fully engulfed house to save homeowner, Marc Snyder on April 14. Arguello, a neighbor of Snyder’s, was home at the time.

“Had they not taken that action he probably would have died from smoke inhalation,” Rincon Police Chief David Schofield said.

He noted that when they entered the burning house neither man knew where they were going. They ended up finding Snyder on the floor of his garage along with his dog.

The Life Saver Award is conferred on officers who save lives outside the line of duty, according to Schofield.

In his 30 years in law enforcement, Schofield has only known of 10 officers to receive the award.
