Lainie Jenkins, executive director/volunteer coordinator of CASA,  gave the Effingham Rotary Club an overview of CASA, which stands for a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

CASA is made up of trained community volunteers who are appointed by a judge to advocate for the best interest of an abused or neglected child. The CASA volunteer makes independent recommendations to the court for services and placement that ensure the child has a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible.

In 2010, 8,700 children were served by 2,100 CASA volunteers in Georgia. Jenkins serves the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit, serving  children in Bulloch, Effingham, Jenkins and Screven counties.
