The community observance of Memorial Day will be held Monday beginning at 6 p.m., with guest speaker Lt. Col. (ret.) Douglas G. Andrews.

Col. (ret.) Lamar Crosby will be the master of ceremonies, and Tommy Allen will lead the pledge of allegiance. First District Commissioner Forrest Floyd will deliver the welcome on behalf of the county.

The names of those from Effingham County killed in action will be read. More than 1.2 million American servicemembers have been killed in combat, and more than 560,000 fell in the Civil War.
