Family Promise of Effingham is close to opening its doors, but first the organization needs volunteers to ready its day center.

Family Promise, an organization that helps homeless families, will have work days at the day center from 8 a.m.-noon this Saturday and on June 14.

Anyone interested in helping can go to the Family Promise Web site and sign up under the calendar tab. The link is www.effinghamfamilypromise.org/volunteer-sign-up.

Volunteers are needed for painting, dry-walling, cleaning, raking and cleaning the playground area, installing doors and windows and serving as food runners.

The organization also is in need of knowledgeable craftsmen who would like to volunteer to help complete more complex renovation tasks.

People from the community are welcome to volunteer as an individual, family, small group, Sunday school class, business or civic organization.
