Girls Night Out to focus on issues related to aging

During this time of the year, many women feel the health effects that can accompany holiday-related stress. It’s also the time of the year when calories tend to creep up and busy schedules keep exercise down.

The question is, can those extra few pounds before the start of the New Year or the holiday blues have a long-term negative impact on women as they age? This is the topic of discussion during the upcoming Girls Night Out presented by Effingham Health System.

A break from the regular schedule because of the holidays, Girls Night Out will be held Tuesday from 7-9 p.m., at the Effingham Imaging Center, 110 Goshen Rd., Rincon. Dr. Romualdo Laygo will present “What every woman should know about her health as she ages,” sharing his advice on how women can lower their risks for diseases such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease. He’ll also reveal how stress and depression affect a woman’s overall health and share details on the most important preventative health screenings that women should have every year.

In addition to Dr. Laygo’s free health education program, Girls Night Out is pleased to welcome Kathy Browne and Janet Silas, owners of Cherish the Event, who will share their seasonal celebration tips and party host advice.

Light refreshments and opportunities to win free gifts are always a part of Girls Night Out.  Most importantly, women will have the chance to spend a little more “me time” while learning valuable health information.

There is no need to schedule an appointment to attend Girls Night Out. For more information, call 826-1427 or 754-0421.
