L.I.F.E., Inc. hosted a social event on March 20 at the Spring Hollow community in Springfield.

L.I.F.E., Inc., a non profit independent living center in Savannah, serving 11 counties, opened an office in Rincon at the United Way building in November 2007 with Nina Dasher, independent living coordinator, responsible for Effingham and Bulloch counties.

Information about L.I.F.E., Inc, was given to the residents in attendance as well as information about the new proposed regional rural transportation system that will begin in July.

Many expressed the need for transportation and other quality of life opportunities. Many of the residents are elderly and/or disabled. Letters of concerns for transportation were signed and will be sent to Myra Lewis, Effingham County commission chairperson, asking that Effifngham County participate in the system.

In attendance also were representatives from The Arc of Effingham and newly forming Personal Disability Voice Chat, headed by Jay Andrews and Lynell Arnsdorff of Rincon.

Brenda Fredericks did most of the cooking for the event and everyone said they really enjoyed the food. Door prizes were given, balloons decorated the parking lot and everyone got a bit of sun. Music was provided by Joe Schumacher. The United Way furnished tables and chairs.
