A new Boy Scout district in Effingham County, called Twin Rivers, kicked off with its first official meeting on May 16.

A dinner was provided for 14 local scouts who have earned their Eagle Scout rank this year. The scouts recognized were: Raoul Rego, Joshua Stapleton, Ben Heller, Jared Curtis, Kyle Leonhardt, Ronald McDaniel, Dallas Dasher, Harrison Hall, Travis Longenberger, Jesse Johnson, Jeffrey Madere, Thomas Madsen, Dalton Scott and Samuel Diederich.

The scouts’ families joined them for the ceremony and dinner. The recognition was held along with the Marine Corps League, which makes this presentation each year in honor of the boys’ commitment to their citizenship. The boys received an Outstanding Citizenship Award of Excellence certificate.

The Twin Rivers district will hold its next meeting on July 11 at 7 p.m. at Black Creek Scout Reservation.

Frank Patterson, Will Britt and Rev. Patrick Finely serve as leaders and look forward to having other leaders help continue the scouting legacy. Anyone interested in being involved can contact Patterson at 927-7272.
