SPRINGFIELD -- The Effingham County Board of Education filled a key administrative opening during its meeting Thursday night.

In a 4-1 vote, Tammy Jacobs, an assistant principal at South Effingham High School, was named principal at Ebenezer Middle School. Beth Helmley of District 4 cast the dissenting vote.

Jacobs, dubbed the 2018 assistant principal of the year by the Georgia Association for Secondary School Principals, will succeed Amie Dickerson. Dickerson took over as  Effingham County High School's principal Oct. 10. She replaced Billy Hughes, who accept an FFA position with statewide responsibilities.

In other moves Thursday, the board opted not to add another day to the schedule because of the one lost to Hurricane Michael earlier this month.
