RINCON — The grand opening of Teach Right!, an educational supply store, will be held June 30 at 586 South Columbia Ave. in Rincon.

Owner Marian Hodge, a recently retired educator who is also a nationally recognized Early Childhood consultant, said, “We’ve expanded our original idea to include not only educational resources for classroom teachers but also for daycare providers, churches, parents, charities and clubs. We also carry toys and games that will stimulate children’s cognitive development as well as some gift items.”

Beyond educational supplies, Teach Right! will provide professional development opportunities, parenting workshops and a prep center available for making educational materials. A number of workshops have been scheduled for this summer on topics of interest to teachers from pre-K through high school.

Hodge said, “I’m proudest of all that we can provide a place for educators and parents to come together to learn and share more about our common interests. We want it to be a fun place.”

Hodge’s daughter, Erin Woodcock, who has a master’s in social work, is assisting with the operation of the store and also will conduct workshops on topics such as family welfare, autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

Hodge says that she has long felt that Rincon needed a resource store for its teachers.  “So many times over the years, I needed supplies, books and other resources to help me in the classroom,” she said. “Instead of traveling a great distance to find the resources, I usually ended up ordering online which I felt wasn’t the best alternative.”

Once she retired, Hodge said she was determined teachers in the area would have easy access to what they needed to be successful in their classrooms. She conducted surveys throughout the area schools, confirming the need for such a business.

Teach Right! will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with extended hours for workshops. They have a Web site at www.teachrightstore.com.
