County putting ash road mix to the test

Fixing the troubled ash roads in Effingham County could take several different methods, depending on the remedies needed, county commissioners learned Tuesday.

County staff and the public works department have compiled a list of the 20 most damaged ash roads in the county and presented commissioners with potential solutions to the problem roads.

And residents of some of the worst roads also asked how soon their damaged roads could be fixed.

The Rev. Lon Maurice Harden has been named the 2025 recipient of the John Adam Treutlen Award, the highest honor from the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. A Marine Corps veteran, longtime pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and dedicated community leader, Harden was recognized for his decades of service, spiritual leadership and civic involvement across Effingham County.
