The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery at a local hotel early Thursday morning.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies and Rincon Police responded to a report of a robbery at the Rincon Inn and Suites in the 6000 block of Highway 21 South.

The suspect forced his way into the hotel and pointed a firearm at the clerk, according to ECSO spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

“A struggle ensued between the robbery suspect and the clerk. The suspect then fled the scene after he sustained minor injuries,” Ehsanipoor said.

The suspect is described as a tall, skinny black male wearing all black with neck-length dreads. The man’s face was covered, Ehsanipoor said.

For all the attempted robber’s trouble, he left the hotel empty-handed.

“He did not get anything,” Ehsanipoor said.
