Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men late Tuesday afternoon after a deputy observed a drug sale at a Rincon gas station on Highway 21.
After the deputy observed the transaction, he attempted to stop the suspect vehicle at the Sunoco station.
Deputies chased the vehicle to the parking lot of the Days Inn in Rincon, where both suspects fled on foot. Deputies apprehended the suspects after a foot chase.
Arrested were Desmond Hill, 27, of Rincon, and Theron Bush, 18. Hill has been charged with sale of marijuana, felony fleeing to elude, possession of a concealed weapon and no insurance. Bush was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Witnesses to the chase said they saw the suspects throwing objects out of their car before they were finally stopped in the motel’s parking lot. Three other eyewitnesses said Hill and Bush had pulled up next to them at the light at Highway 21 and Westwood Drive. One of them had not seen one of the men in quite a while and wanted to talk to him, so they pulled into the Sunoco station.
That’s when a deputy approached Hill and Bush’s vehicle.
Deputies and Rincon police officers chased one of the suspects into the Towne Park Lake subdivision. A K-9 unit also was called in and searched the car and its surroundings.
Hill and Bush were taken to the Effingham County Jail.
