A Clyo man is in jail after he led Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase early Wednesday morning, according to the ECSO.
Deputies said that shortly before 12:30 a.m. they responded to a Reedsville Road residence after it was reported that a person there was threatening to harm himself. Deputies were told the man had a firearm and was in a Chevrolet Silverado.
Deputies spotted the vehicle, driven by Daniel Crowley, 44, of Clyo, traveling on Green Morgan School Road. They attempted a traffic stop, but Crowley fled, leading deputies on a pursuit for several miles on roads and through woods.
During the pursuit, Crowley attempted to crash into patrol cars. The pursuit ended on Reedsville Road when Crowley’s vehicle T-boned an Effingham County Sheriff’s patrol car.
Crowley, who had a firearm in his lap, was taken into custody. He is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer.
He was evaluated by medical personnel and taken to the Effingham County Jail.
