Deputy hurt while enforcing court order

An Effingham County Sheriff’s deputy is recuperating from injuries sustained Friday.

Deputies went to a residence on Highway 21 North to enforce a court order when Franklin Johnson, 23, attacked Sgt. Danny Harrington with a knife, according to the ECSO. The deputy suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was treated Memorial Health University Center.

Harrington is at home recovering from his injuries. Johnson also was taken to Memorial for treatment and he remains hospitalized.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
