A sentencing date has not been set for a Guyton man who pled guilty in U.S. District Court to armed robbery.

Don Lowery, a former reporter, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty in Southern District Judge Avant B. Edenfield’s courtroom Wednesday morning.

Lowery was arrested after his Sept. 17, 2007, attempt to rob a bank on Savannah’s southside was thwarted by a customer who tackled Lowery.

Lowery was charged with attempted armed bank robbery and one count of carrying and using a firearm during the commission of a crime of a violence.

His plea Wednesday included admitting guilt to the first count and to a lesser included charge in the second count.
