A Savannah man was arrested Wednesday on charges he sexually assaulted three young children in Effingham County.

Dennis Cronk, 64, of 2033 E. 41st St., is charged with three counts of aggravated child molestation, three counts of aggravated sexual battery, three counts of first-degree cruelty to children and three counts of false imprisonment.

"It was an act of evil – one of the sickest, vile cases this office has ever seen," said Effingham County Sheriff's Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

The incident that led to Cronk's arrest occurred this week in Effingham, Ehsanipoor said. Cronk's relationship to the victims will not be released by investigators or the Herald.

Cronk was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon by ECSO investigators with the assistance of Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police. Ehsanipoor described Cronk as "very nonchalant" when he was taken into custody.

The case remains under investigation to determine if Cronk will face more charges. Anyone with any additional information about Cronk or who may know of additional victims is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Cronk is being held in the Effingham County Jail without bond.
