A kayaker reported missing off Tybee Island this weekend has been found in Oklahoma City.
Cody Magee was reported missing Sunday. But authorities discovered he missed an Effingham County court appearance. Magee has been charged with computer pornography, criminal attempt to commit child molestation, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office are working with the U.S. Attorney to have Magee extradited to Georgia, according to the SCMPD.
Magee was arrested following a traffic stop Wednesday in Oklahoma City. He remains in custody because he is considered a danger to himself.
Magee, from Savannah, was arrested June 27, 2015, and indicted July 17. Authorities allege he arrived at an arranged meeting spot in order to connect with who he thought was a 15-year-old girl for sex. Magee also had a .380-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun on him when he was arrested.
Law enforcement authorities believe Magee’s disappearance was staged in order to avoid his court appearance in Effingham County. When Magee failed to appear in court, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Magee was scheduled to be in court Monday before Judge William Woodrum.
Units from SCMPD, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources conducted a search of local waterways following Magee’s disappearance. This incident remains under investigation.
