The search continues for an armed robbery suspect, Springfield Police Chief Paul Wynn said Thursday afternoon.

Springfield Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred at Wilson’s Insurance Agency at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Wynn said a black male, described as 5-feet-8 to 6-feet tall and wearing a white shirt, black skullcap and a bandanna-like item on his face, is reported to have entered the building and asked for money from a person in the business. A second person came around the corner and chased the alleged robber out of the building.

“We tried to contain the scene and tried to contain the area, which was unsuccessful,” Wynn said.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Rincon Police Department, Garden City Police Department K-9, Georgia State Patrol helicopter, district attorney’s investigator and Effingham County crime scene investigators all assisted in the effort.

Wynn said the weapon the suspect used and a bag were recovered.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 754-3061.
