Oct. 12

Agency Assist

An officer responded to a call for an agency assist at4253 Georgia Highway119 North in Clyo. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant who stated that she noticed a heavy amount of smoke emitting from her kitchen area and then called 911. The officer then spoke with Lieutenant Hendrix of the Effingham County Fire Department who stated that the point of origin was from the stove area from which a pot of grease was inside of the stove. He stated that no further damage was done other than heavy smoke which was removed from the scene with a portable smoke ejector. The responding officer was Jonathan Fadden.

Stolen Property

An officer was dispatched to theEffinghamCounty’s Sheriffs Office lobby in reference to stolen property. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the victim that advised that she put a generator atRalph Rahn Rd.at the railroad tracks and another atRahn Station Rd.due to the hurricane. The victim stated  that when she went to go check on the generators the next day both were gone. She said that both generators are black and blue in color and are tagged on the top with blue spray paint. The reporting officer was Tonya Hodges.

Agency Assist

An officer received a call for service for a possible agency assist for the Effingham County Fire Department onGeorge Hurst Roadin Guyton for a structure fire. Upon arrival, he encountered a fully engulfed structure with fire. While on scene, he observed the Effingham County Fire Department extinguish the flames. The officer met with a complainant who stated she arrived on the scene to go hunting and discovered the fire. She stated that when trying to contact the property owner she was unsuccessful. Another complainant stated that his 1993 Ford F150 was parked next to the structure and damaged by the flames. One victim said that that the clubhouse that was engulfed by flames contained several ATVs. The Fire Department determined that all ATV’s were destroyed by the fire. Oct. 13

Damaged Property

An officer responded to the entrance of Barrier Crossing in Guyton and made contact with the complainant. The complainant said that someone hit the sign to the entrance of Barrier and damaged the sign. While observing the sign, the officer saw that the sign was partially in the roadway ofBarrister Drivenear Courthouse. The officer also observed bricks all over the roadway as well as tire marks driving onto the dirt portion of the sign. A partial piece of head light cover was recovered. The reporting officer was Brittany Hanton.

Oct. 13

Theft by taking

An officer was dispatched to an alleged verbal domestic disturbance located at145 Dorothy Ln.inSpringfield. The officer arrived and met with two complainants. Both were having a disagreement with their relative who stated that he was angry because his uncle who was not on the scene had stolen his gun that he valued at $130.00. The relative stated that he wanted his money for the gun which he bought from an unknown subject off the street in an unknown area. The relative was unable to describe the gun in any way. The officer determined that the disagreement was a civil matter and not a domestic violence issue. The responding officer was Dawn Devoss.

Burglary

An officer responded to221 Saddlehorn Lanein Gutyon, in reference to a burglary that had already occurred. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant who advised that she left her residence around 2:00 p.m. and upon her return around 9:00 p.m. she found her home ramsacked. Photos were then taken of the home. The complainant stated that at this time she did not notice anything missing just items turned over and broken. The front door of the residence had damage from being pried open for entry, she also stated while she was evacuated for the recent hurricane it appears someone had attempted to pry the side door open but was unsuccessful.  The responding officer was Kathy Dillard.

Driving While License Suspended or Revoked

An officer was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle that was headed towardsMcCall RoadfromChestnut Streetin Springfield City Limits. The officer was sitting atBlue Jay RoadandMccall Road Southwhen he observed a white work van with a headlight out that matched the description of the suspicious vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was identified. A check through GCIC indicated the driver had a suspended license for a failure to appear offense. The driver stated that he paid the citation while showing the receipt but did not go to the DMV for reinstatement because he did not know he had to. The officer advised the driver that he was being placed under arrest. The vehicle was secured and the driver was transported to Effingham County Jail without incident. Unwanted Person

An officer responded to798 McCall RoadLot. 43 inSpringfieldin reference to an unwanted person on the complainant’s property. The complainant told the officer that his ex-girlfriend refused to leave his residence. They had split up and he wished that she left and not contact him. The ex-girlfriend stated it was all about Facebook and that her profile stated that she was in a relationship with someone else which upset the complainant. The complainant wished that she was verbally told to stay away from his property, in which she was advised and left the scene. The responding officer was Charles Powers.

Oct. 12

Animal Complaint

An officer was dispatched to theEffinghamHospitalemergency room in reference to a dog bite. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant. She advised that a grey and white male pitbull that belonged to her brother entered her bedroom and began to attack her dog that was chained to the toilet in the master bedroom to prevent it from running away. The complainant advised that when she tried to separate the two animals, she was bitten on the right ankle and on the right arm below her elbow. The officer observed that her right ankle was red, swollen and had several large lacerations that were consistent with those of a dog bite.

After leaving the hospital, the officer went to202 Foxbow Dr.inEdento make contact the complainant’s brother. Upon arrival, the officer met her brother in the front yard. The officer noticed that the right side of his face was covered in scrapes and that the area around his right eye was bruised and swollen. He was wearing an ace bandage around his right hand and forearm concealing several scrapes and puncture wounds around his hand/wrist area. The brother advised that he was sitting in the leaving room when the complainant’s dog randomly began attacking him. He stated that while he was being attacked his dog tried to defend him by attacking the complainant’s dog. He also stated that the complainant tried separate the two animals and was bitten by her own dog.

The officer observed that the majority of the brother’s wounds were not caused by dog bites due to the pattern of the injuries. Both animals were transported to the Effingham Animal shelter at the request of the owners. The responding officer was Ashby Zydonyk.

Oct. 13

Theft by taking

The officer arrived at202 Foxbow Dr.inEdento investigate an animal complaint from a previous date. The complainant advised that he thought his sister had stolen his medication. He stated that he is missing an entire 120 count bottle of 2mg Xanax and a 4 count bottle of   8mg Buprenorphine. His fiancée stated that she saw his sister carrying some of his Xanax inside of the cellophane of a cigarette pack but didn’t confront her about it. The officer was unsuccessful when contacting the sister to hear her side of the story. The responding officer was Ashby Zydonyk.
