Springfield Police officers arrested two people and charged them with several drug-related offenses in mid-April.
Springfield officers, along with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit, arrested two people in the Oakwood area after a search warrant was served. One suspect was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of synthetic marijuana, two counts of possession of a controlled substance near a housing project, possession of drug-related objects and one count of using a communications device for the purpose of selling.
“We believe this guy has been selling for a long time,” said Officer Thomas Rahn, “so it’s good to get him out of there.”
The second suspect was charged with possession of drug-related objects and two counts of possession with intent to distribute.
Bond has not been set for either suspect, Cleveland Gray or Bernard Lane.
Rahn said Springfield officers had been investigating the house since last November.
“We believe he was selling to between five to 10 people a day,” he said. “It varied. But there were times we would see six cars in and out of his house.”
Marijuana and prescription pills were found at the house, along with several drug-related objects.
The arrests close the investigation at that house, Rahn said, but there are other houses where drug activity is suspected the Springfield Police continue to monitor, he added.
“We have several houses we’re looking at,” Rahn said.
