Three arrested in Friday attack on Sherwood Drive

A Rincon homeowner was injured seriously during a robbery attempt of his Sherwood Drive home Friday, according to the Rincon Police Department.

During the robbery, the homeowner was struck with an object, believed to be a large blade knife, according to the Rincon Police. The victim was able to get out of his house, which subsequently caught fire. The fire is believed to have been started by the suspects, who fled and eventually left in an awaiting vehicle.

Since the incident, several suspects have been identified, said Rincon Police Chief Phillip Scholl. With the assistance of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals, Statesboro Police Department, and Millen Police Department, each of the suspect has been located and apprehended.

Arrested were Arturo Lopez, 23, of Rincon, Cammy Jackson, 28, of Rincon, and China Lonon, 20, of Statesboro.

Lopez has been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit arson in the first degree, criminal trespass, arson in the third degree, obstruction, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, party to a crime to criminal attempt to murder and cruelty to animals.

Jackson has been charged with party to crime of robbery, possession of marijuana and possession of a drug-related object. Lonon has been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit arson in the first degree, criminal trespass, arson in the third degree, obstruction, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, party to a crime to criminal attempt to murder and cruelty to animals.

All three suspects are currently housed in the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office jail awaiting arraignment.

Two men were arrested Tuesday in Eden after a domestic dispute led to a standoff. Deputies say George Driggers, 47, threatened his girlfriend and law enforcement with a gun, then barricaded himself inside a home. His father, Alford Driggers, 80, was also charged for allegedly threatening deputies.
