An Effingham County man accused of child molestation and filming the acts to distribute on the Internet will have a bench trial later this month.

Brandon Fanning, charged with four counts of aggravated child molestation, will have a bench trial Aug. 27 before Judge Gates Peed in Effingham Count Superior Court. Fanning also has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child, computer sexual exploitation of children, child molestation, statutory rape and computer or electronic pornography.

Fanning was arrested in August 2013, and investigators said Fanning had been molesting a boy and he possessed videos of the acts. They also alleged he was sharing the videos. Videos of Fanning engaged in sexual activities with a dog also were found, according to investigators.

After receiving a tip that someone was videotaping sexual acts with a minor and sharing them, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigated.

He was indicted in September and arraigned in October. An examination for his mental competency at the time of the acts was ordered in November.
