Effingham County officials broke ground Wednesday on a new recreation gymnasium at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex in Springfield. The 27,800 square feet gym, designed by Hussey Gay Bell, will feature a pair of full-sized basketball courts, bleachers, dressing rooms and a concession stand. It is expected to take about six months to construct.

The $5 million building is financed with bonds issued by the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority. The bonds will be paid back using SPLOST funds.
