Effingham County under Tropical Storm Warning

The Effingham Emergency Management Agency (EEMA) has been monitoring the changes to Hurricane Dorian, which is now a Category 2 hurricane.

EEMA has activated its Emergency Operations Center to Level 2 for extended hours and resource allocation. 

 Effingham County is under a Tropical Storm Warning: This means tropical storm conditions are possible in the area within the next 36 hours.

  Peak wind forecast 25-35mph, gusts up to 45 mph; 2-4 inches of rain; the potential for tornadoes has decreased; but stay tuned to local broadcast outlets for changes in the forecast.

 Sandbags are available today at Freedom Park (Ga. Hwy 21 next to Lowe's) in Rincon; limited to 15 per household. 

Local Announcements

: • Effingham County schools will be in regular session today and closed on Wednesday and Thursday; with the remainder of the week to be determined

. • The Effingham County Board of Commissioners and Tax Commissioner’s Office will be closed today and Wednesday; with the remainder of the week to be determined

. • Effingham County courts will be closed today, Wednesday and Thursday. 

• The Effingham County Recreation Department will be closedtoday and Wednesday; all activities have been postponed until further notice.

 • The Effingham Animal Shelter is closed and not accepting any additional animals at this time.

 • The city offices of Guyton and Springfield will be closed today and Wednesday.

 • The city offices of Rincon will be open today; with the remainder of the week to be determined

. • Atlantic Waste will  be closed Wednesday and possibly Thursday; additional routes will run this weekend to catch up.

 • Waste Management has suspended services.
