Family Promise of Effingham spreads awareness, food

RINCON -- Family Promise of Effingham hosted its first annual Low Country Boil on Saturday.

This event, expected to become an annual one, was designed to spread awareness about homelessness for families in the community. Family Promise of Effingham, located at 2160 Hwy 21 South, is a 501©3 non-profit organization that provides overnight accommodations, meals and resources to homeless families with children.

For the advanced ticket price of $20, all who attended were furnished a meal of shrimp, corn, sausage and potatoes provided by Dasher Insurance Agency. A seafood free option was also available.

Tickets bought the day of the event cost $25.

Entertainment was provided by The Goshen Travelers.

The Rev. Lon Maurice Harden has been named the 2025 recipient of the John Adam Treutlen Award, the highest honor from the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. A Marine Corps veteran, longtime pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and dedicated community leader, Harden was recognized for his decades of service, spiritual leadership and civic involvement across Effingham County.
