Georgia High School Association officials are set to meet in Thomaston on Friday to discuss the fate of spring sports.

The GHSA recommended on March 13 that all athletic events be suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic. The halt was extended through at least April 6 following an emergency declaration by Gov. Brian Kemp. It called for a 10-person limit at gatherings, including schools and related sporting events.

"All we can do is take the information available to us at the time and make the best decisions we can moving forward," GHSA Executive Director Robin Hines said in a Tuesday email to athletic directors.." Our top priority is the safety of our student athletes and those with whom they have contact."

Effingham County schools are tentatively set to resume April 13. The regular season for baseball is slated to end April 18. The regular season for soccer is scheduled to end April 16.
