Effingham County's delegation in the Georgia General Assembly is currently unopposed in the 2020 election.

Neither District 4 Sen. Jack Hill, House District 159 Rep. Jon Burns nor House District 161 Rep. Bill Hitchens had a challenger with two hours left in the qualifying period.

U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter will face Republican primary opposition from Daniel Merritt in the May 29 primary. Democrats Lisa Ring, Barbara Seidman and Joyce Marie Griggs are also seeking Carter's seat.

In U.S. House District 12, Rep. Rick Allen, the Republican incumbent, has two Democrat challengers, Dan Steiner and Elizabeth Johnson.

 

Guyton councilman indicted on five felonies in city credit card case
Hamby indicted
Guyton City Councilman Theodore Hamby indicted on five counts.
Guyton City Councilman Theodore Hamby was indicted Monday on five felony charges related to the alleged misuse of a city credit card. The indictment includes three counts of financial transaction card fraud and two counts of making false statements. Hamby, 26, is accused of making more than $400 in unauthorized purchases and lying to a GBI agent during the investigation. He denies the charges.
