Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie has qualified to run again, submitting his paperwork and fee Wednesday afternoon.

McDuffie was elected without opposition in 2004.

“I think the people of the county have seen what we can do, what we were and where we’ve come to,” he said.

McDuffie qualified as a Republican. Rick Gossett qualified as a Republican candidate for sheriff on Tuesday.

“I’ve gotten a lot of positive response,” McDuffie said. “We’re anxious to get it behind us and to get back to the business of working to protect the people of this county.”

Other Republican qualifiers are: David Exley — coroner; Dusty Zeigler — chairman at large; and Reggie Loper — 4th District county commissioner.

Linda McDaniel qualified Wednesday as a Republican candidate for tax commissioner. McDaniel, a lifelong resident of Effingham County, is also the chairman of the Effingham Department of Family and Children Services board.
