The body of an Effingham County firefighter who had gone fishing with his 10-year-old son on the Ogeechee River on Sunday afternoon was found around 10 p.m. Sunday night by searchers.

Authorities have not released the name of the man.

Searchers went out just before 8 p.m. after the 10-year-old got the boat back to shore and reported that his father had fallen into the water.

Officers from Bryan, Chatham and Effingham counties and the Department of Natural Resources searched the river around the Morgan's River Bridge on the Bryan-Chatham line.
