RINCON — A monster is moving into the Clarence E. Morgan Complex.
Fortunately, there is no reason to be alarmed.
An artificial turf baseball field at the recreation facility in Springfield will feature an outfield wall reminiscent of Fenway Park's Green Monster.
Unlike the towering wall in left field in Boston, the one at the Morgan Complex will be red and in right field in honor of local World Series championship Josh Reddick. The Houston Astros right fielder donated nearly $1 million toward the field that will carry his name.
Josh Reddick Field is set to open this summer, according to Steve Davis, county administrator.
"Mr. Reddick has been very, very generous," Davis said during a men's breakfast at First Baptist Church of Rincon on Sunday. "This stadium will seat abut 500 people and have seats like a major league stadium. It will have a roof and fans — and what we will call 'The Redd Monster' instead of the 'The Green Monster.'
"That's R-E-D-D."
The Redd Monster will be 16 feet high and 120 feet long.
