Parent University-Effingham celebrates fifth graduation

SPRINGFIELD — Parent University-Effingham reached a milestone on Saturday by graduating its fifth class at Effingham Middle School.

The mission of Parent University-Effingham is to educate, empower and inspire parents to meet the needs of their children by becoming their first and most important teacher. The non-profit community collaborative provides free learning sessions designed to assist parents in supporting their children to achieve in school and life. The sessions focus on child development, what children are learning in school, advocacy, parent leadership, effective parenting skills and personal growth and development.

Two Arrested After Stolen Ambulance Chase Ends in Crash in Port Wentworth

Two men are in custody after police say one stole an ambulance and led officers on a chase from Rincon to Port Wentworth Monday afternoon. The driver, Dwayne Simmons, 56, of Savannah, faces multiple felony charges. The passenger, Georgell Brown, 51, was charged with loitering after fleeing the scene of an earlier crash. The pursuit ended when the ambulance crashed near Highway 21.
