Port Wentworth’s first responders recently got an upgrade to their tool belts. Both the police and firefighters are now equipped with the popular drug Naloxone while they work.

Most recognize Naloxone by its more common name — Narcan.

The drug remains the first nasal spray version of naloxone hydrochloride approved by the Food and Drug Administration. This medicine is used to temporarily stop or reverse the debilitating effects of an opioid or heroin overdose, according to the FDA’s website. It is approved for use in adults and children and can be administered by anyone.
