Qualifying gets under way

Clerk of Superior Court Elizabeth Hursey qualified Monday to seek re-election to her office.

Hursey qualified as a Democrat.

Qualifying for local partisan races must be completed by noon Friday.

State Rep. Jon Burns (R-Newington) qualified to seek re-election to House District 157 for a second term. State Sen. Jack Hill (R-Reidsville) said he intends to run for a 10th term as senator and is expected to file his qualifying paperwork this morning. Qualifying for General Assembly and statewide races is done in Atlanta.

U.S. Rep. John Barrow (D-Savannah) qualified to run for his seat in Congress again and faces opposition from Regina D. Thomas. Thomas, a state senator, qualified as a Democrat on Monday morning.
