RINCON — Rincon Chevrolet gifted James Woodward, a 33-year-old Effingham County resident, a car after his friend, Evelyn Davis, visited the dealership looking for someone to donate a reliable vehicle.

Woodward, paralyzed in a car accident 11 years ago. is the single parent of an 11- year-old daughter and relies on disability payments for income. Davis knew he did not have the money for much-needed transportation so she decided to help him.

“They swooped in and changed our lives,” Woodward said about Woodward and Rincon Chevrolet. “It’s an act of love, no strings attached. I’m touched they bent over backwards for us.”

After visiting multiple dealerships, Davis met with Rincon Chevrolet Executive Manager Jesse Greathouse, to present her proposal. Greathouse then began his search for a vehicle big enough to accommodate Woodward’s wheelchair and daughter’s active lifestyle. He acquired a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu and donated it.

“We want people to feel this is a community store,” Greathouse said. “It’s about giving back and paying it forward.”

Rincon Chevrolet’s commitment to the community includes contributing to many civic, religious, academic and youth organizations with the Partners Program where it donates $150 to an organization the customer chooses every time a vehicle is purchased at the dealership. It also contributes to the football teams of South Effingham, Effingham County and New Hampstead high schools by donating $3 for every point scored to their athletic department.

Also, every time a local high school football fan purchases a vehicle from Rincon Chevrolet, the dealership will donate $150 to their favorite team’s athletic department.
