Schools to remain closed longer than expected

A few days before Monday's arrival of Tropical Storm Irma, Superintendent Dr. Randy Shearouse announced that Effingham County Schools would be closed Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Those plans have changed, however.

Since many homes in the county remain without power and some roads are impassable, schools will remain closed until Thursday.

Talks are also underway to move Friday's Statesboro-Effingham County football game to Saturday.
