Scott to take Mars Theatre stage May 18

SPRINGFIELD — Savannah jazz favorite Huxsie Scott will take the stage at the Mars Theatre on May 18 at 8 p.m.
A native of Savannah, Scott is regarded as one of the greatest jazz/blues artists ever to live and perform in the Savannah coastal area. She began her career as a jazz vocalist and has performed with many of the area's premiere jazz ensembles and symphony orchestras.
Scott was a featured opener for such jazz greats as the late Lionel Hampton and McCoy Tyner. She was the original vocalist for the Savannah Jazz Orchestra and worked for a number of years as the featured vocalist for jazz great and Savannah legendbassist Ben Tucker.
In 2004, Scott was inducted into the Savannah Tribune Gospel Hall Of Fame and in 2005, she was inducted into the Coastal Jazz Association's Hall of Fame. Currently, she is a featured performer at the historic Savannah Theatre.
Tickets for the show cost $30 floor/$25 balcony and can be purchased at marstheatre.com or by calling 754-1118. Floor seats are limited but balcony seats remain. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and beer and wine will be available.
The theatre recently celebrated it’s four-year anniversary of being open. Since 2014, close to 60,000 movie tickets have been sold and more than 26,500 tubs of popcorn have been consumed. Visitors from as far away as Anchorage, Alaska, have visited and the quality of past live performances include Grammy winners, Billboard chart toppers and Grand Ole Opry inductees.
Slated for the remainder of 2018 are Effingham County native Jimmy Lumpkin and the Revival on June 16, a night of inspiration and praise with the Martins, the Millers and local favorite Southern Crossroads on July 27, country legend Larry Gatlin on July 29, a singer songwriter showcase with country greats Billy Dean, Linda Davis and Mo Pitney on Aug. 17, oldies favorite The Platters on Oct. 12, a capella group Eclipse 6 on Nov. 16 and "It’s A Wonderful Life LIVE" from WVL Radio Theatre on Dec. 15.
