Second Lt. William Dye was commissioned in the U.S. Army during his graduation from Georgia Southern University May 13.

Dye earned his BS in exercise science and is following his father Lt. Col. Rober Dye into the Army.

While at Georgia Southern, Lt. Dye completed coursework in the ROTC and served in the Georgia Army National Guard. He was a member of the color guard and Ranger Challenge teams; and served two years as a Cadet Association officer, most recently as president.

Lt. Dye was the recipient of the Bronze Medal of Merit award, the American Legion Award, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Award and the Hope Scholarship. Lt. Dye was a member of the club Rugby team and Phi Eta Sigma honor society. Lt. Dye was named a Distinguish Military Student and commissioned as active duty, armor.

Lt. Dye is from Guyton and a 2021 graduate of South Effingham High School.
