Sixty-seven citations result from road checks

SPRINGFIELD -- Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie and the Effingham County Traffic Unit, along with road patrol and reserve deputies, conducted multiple safety checkpoints throughout Effingham County on New Year's Eve.

These checkpoints were conducted in an effort to remove dangerous drivers from roadways. The enforcement effort began at 8 p.m.Monday and ended at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday. 


A total of 67 citations were issued and 15 arrests were made. Violations included"

Seatbelts - 11
Child safety seat - 10
Others - 46
Suspended license arrests - 5 
DUI arrests - 7 
Drug arrests - 5 
Wanted fugitives - 2 
Other felony arrests - 1
