South Effingham musician's composition selected to be performed at GMEA Conference

Hiram Luciano-Olivencia’s original composition for brass ensemble was recently chosen from more than 100 high school entries as a state-wide winning composition by the Georgia Music Educators Association.  It will be be performed by several of his fellow South Effingham band members for music educators from across Georgia at the GMEA In-Service Conference at the Classic Center in Athens on Jan. 24, 2020.  The title of his work is “Idyllic Interlude.”

The Rev. Lon Maurice Harden has been named the 2025 recipient of the John Adam Treutlen Award, the highest honor from the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. A Marine Corps veteran, longtime pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and dedicated community leader, Harden was recognized for his decades of service, spiritual leadership and civic involvement across Effingham County.
