South Effingham softball team sweeps four weekend games

South Effingham’s softball team reeled off victories in four games in the Brookwood Tournament at Powder Springs, upping its record to 15-5.
The Mustangs opened the event on Friday by topping Griffin 13-6 and Allatoona 3-1.
Against Griffin, Alex Brown paced the Mustangs with two hits and two RBI. Ashleigh Woods also socked two hits. Chloe Strickland tallied one hit and two RBI
Reann McCloy was the winning pitcher, fanning seven.
Kastin Belogorska, Allie Ergle and Rachel Mixon each collected two hits against Allatoona. Belogorska, the winning pitcher, and Ergle drove in runs with their hits.
On Saturday, South Effingham beat Peachtree Ridge 6-3 and Hillgrove 6-0.
McCloy drove in a pair of runs against Peachtree Ridge. Cheyenne MIller and Alexa Johanson each had two hits.
Bekogorska was the winning pitcher in both Saturday games. She added three hits in the finale against Hillgrove.
Alex Brown also had three hits.

Guyton Woman Charged with Murder in Husband’s Death

A Guyton woman has been charged with murder in her husband’s death after police found him dead Tuesday at a Pine Street home. Jennifer Underwood was arrested, and authorities said the case remains under investigation.
