After spurning the cool treat several times, two-year-old Ava McGuire accepts a spoonful of shaved ice from her mother, Vanessa, during Saturday's "Welcome Back Picnic" at Guyton Elementary School. The event featured free games, food and music. Vanessa is a veteran teacher at the school, which has a new principal, Greg Manior. School starts in Effingham County on Aug. 4.
