Springfield adopts new alcohol serving hours

Springfield City Council has agreed to extend the hours restaurants can serve alcohol, but council members also vowed to keep an eye on those establishments.

Council members voted to extend serving hours on Friday nights to 1 a.m. Saturday and on-premises consumption to 2 a.m. But a Springfield resident who lives across the street from Kelly’s Tavern said the noise from the restaurant gets loud on occasion and said she did not support extending the service hours.

“I’m not with the ordinance change,” said Rose Burnsed. “My house is probably 50 yards away (from Kelly’s). And I’ve never complained. I feel like it will create other problems.”

Burnsed said the noise comes from patrons sitting in the screened-in area of Kelly’s and from the bands that often play there.
