An Effingham County nurse scored a $1 million Georgia Lottery prize in Port Wentworth.

David West of Springfield played the instant game 50X The Money, winning a $1 million top prize. The lucky winner claimed his prize recently at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Savannah.

West, 57, purchased his lucky ticket at Flash Foods No. 146 on Highway 21 in Port Wentworth.

“It was a lucky day,” West said. “I was on my way home from work, and I stopped and scratched it in the car.”

The father of five stared at the ticket in disbelief.

“I told my wife, and she didn’t believe it,” he said. “We’re very excited. I’m very happy.”

West and his wife, Theresa, have no immediate plans for the winnings.
