How, when and where he died remains a mystery. For the next two years, though, the official state portrait of one of Effingham County’s most celebrated residents will hang in the grand courtroom of the Historic Effingham Courthouse.
Descendants unveiled the portrait of John Adam Treutlen, Georgia’s first constitutionally-elected governor, Saturday afternoon. The portrait is on loan from the state Capitol Museum for two years.
Allen Zeigler, along with Evan Zeigler, removed the drapes off the portrait.
