STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University football will open the 2009 SoCon Saturdays schedule on SportSouth when the Eagles play host to Western Carolina on Sept. 19. The Eagles will play two games on SportSouth, as announced by the Southern Conference office.

SportSouth reaches more than 9.4 million homes in six Southeastern states and is the television home of the Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Thrashers and Southern Conference. Former Super Bowl player and coach Sam Wyche and play-by-play announcer Tom Werme return for their third season in the SportSouth booth for the SoCon Saturdays package.

Kickoff for the Western Carolina game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Paulson Stadium. The Eagles’ game at Appalachian State on Oct. 24, slated for a 3 p.m. start, also will be on SportSouth.

This marks the third straight year that Georgia Southern will have at least two games televised on SportSouth as part of the SoCon Saturdays package.

“We are proud to showcase our football program, Paulson Stadium and our great fans on television this fall. Every time Georgia Southern football is on the air, we benefit from the exposure,” said Athletics Director Sam Baker. “Without a doubt our television appearances help our coaches sell Georgia Southern University to potential student-athletes.”
