With their backs planted firmly against the wall in Conyers on Tuesday, the Effingham County Rebels came out shoving in Game 2 of their best-of-three Class AAAAAA semifinal series against Heritage.

After a 4-1 loss in the opener, the Rebels (31-6) erupted for all their runs in the first four innings of an 11-6 victory that set up an elimination game today at 4 p.m.

Jordan Rahn ignited a six-run rally in the fourth inning with a two-run homer with Ryan Harley aboard. JR Lonon added an RBI hit later in the frame and scored after a couple of passed balls. Dustin Johnson, Austin Mealor and Chandler Hinely also collected RBI during the uprising.

Merritt Evans was the winning pitcher. He allowed nine hits, four walks and struck out six.

Effingham County piled up 15 hits, including three each by Rahn and Mealor. Jerid Stokes, Dustin Johnson and Hinely had two hits apiece.

The Rebels' bats were mostly quiet in the opener. They were limited to a solo homer by Dustin Johnson.

Ethan Johnson pitched for Effingham County. He gave up seven hits and five walks with one strikeout.

The winner of today's game will play Harrison or Pope for the state title in Rome next week. Those teams also split two games in their series Tuesday.
