Lady Mustangs split pair of season-opening games

The South Effingham Lady Mustangs nipped Elbert County 5-4 and fell to Greenbrier in a pair of games in Saturday's Harlem Fall Classic.

Senior shortstop Alex Brown swatted three hits and had two RBI in new head coach Jessica Evans' first win with the Lady Mustangs. Sarah Messex added two hits and an RBI.

Bailey Kendziorska was credited with the pitching victory. She allpwed three hits, two runs (one earned) and logged six strikeouts.

Against Greenbrier, the Lady Mustangs had just three hits, six fewer than in their win. Brown and Messex each drove in a run.

Kendziorska.went five innings on the mound, giving up five hits and three runs (one earned).
